What makes you happy - Exercise

If you don’t have good health, it is still possible to live a happy life. However, in most cases having good health is essential. I always tell customers that it is important to look after their body, temple, avatar, or whatever they call it. I will deal with diet another time.

How do you know if the exercise you are doing makes you happy, you should feel good at the end; if not do a different exercise.

Although, in the past I have played lots of different sports, squash, football (Chelsea supporter- come on the blues). My choice of exercise is swimming; I aim to swim at least one hour each day, five times per week. My preference is because while swimming, I am exercising all my body at the same time. Also, the water does not impact on your body in the same way that other types of exercise does. Swimming for me is peaceful relaxing while at the same time exhilarating.

The high you feel after exercise not only boosts your physical health, but it also improves mental health.

I worked with s group of people suffering from mental health and used exercise as part of their happiness program, with fantastic results.

A study, from the American College of Sports Medicine, indicated that six weeks of bicycle riding or weight training eased stress and irritability in women who had received an anxiety disorder diagnosis.

Chemicals in the brain effect happiness: endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, and testosterone are released in response to increased physical activity. Endorphins give you that post- exercise high feeling.

If so, many people know that exercise can make them happy, why don’t more people exercise? As a self-help expert, my focus is to help people focus on the ‘How’
